Commitment to the Environment
One founding principal of Cell Signaling Technology (CST) is to promote sustainable and sound ecological practices that respect our natural world. We are committed to raising awareness about the environment and the fundamental interrelationship between ourselves and the biosphere in which we live. Understanding the array of interactions that shape the living planet on a global level is as fascinating to us as the complex molecular interactions involved in signal transduction.
LEED Certification
Formerly a hotel, our new headquarters has been transformed into a state of the art production facility and achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in 2006. This is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings that have long-term environmental benefits to both the company and the surrounding communities. Construction waste management, energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, light pollution reduction, and alternative transportation were all considered in creating this innovative and attractive “green building”. Press Release: Cell Signaling Technology Goes Green.
In-House Recycling Program
Internally, CST promotes environmental awareness by providing employees with an extensive in-house recycling program that reduces waste and conserves resources.
By recycling plastics, glass, metals, and paper as well as composting our cafeteria waste, CST has significantly reduced the amount of waste that would typically end up in a local landfill or incinerator.
Marketing and Packaging Materials
All of our marketing and packaging materials are made from the highest amount of post consumer waste possible. The impact on the environment is considered in every decision we make concerning the resources used to promote our products. Using certified (Forest Stewardship Council or FSC) papers and printers for most of our marketing materials allows us to promote other green companies like RAM Printing who share our values.
Conservation Treasures
Since our beginning in 2000 our catalog has highlighted an environmental theme that focuses on a current and important environmental issue. Previous themes have been Nature’s Services, Freshwater Wetlands, Plight of the Pollinators, Spectacular Migrations, World’s Fisheries in Crisis, and Conservation Across Borders. Our current theme; Conservation Treasures, is highlighted in our catalog and on our CST Nature Conservancy webpage. In addition to this effort each year, CST supports environmental organizations that help preserve the Earth’s biodiversity and protect valuable ecosystems.
