Cell Signaling Technology Announces Pilot Study for Aventis to Employ PhosphoScan® Platform for Kinase Phosphoproteomics Analysis

Beverly, MA, September 20, 2004 - Cell Signaling Technology, Inc. (CST) announced today an agreement with Aventis to perform a pilot study employing CST’s PhosphoScan® technology to identify phosphorylation sites and prospective biomarkers of protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) targets. CST’s PhosphoScan® phospho-proteomics technology is a patent-pending methodology combining immunoaffinity purification and mass spectroscopy to determine cellular PTK phosphorylation profiles (TKSignatures®). Biomarkers that are discovered with PhosphoScan® may enable target validation and profiling assays to monitor kinase targeted therapeutic pharmacodynamics and efficacy.

“Aventis’s integrated kinase program and deep kinase target portfolio provide an ideal context for CST’s PhosphoScan® platform to deliver biomarkers of kinase activation-state and inhibition,” said Christopher Bunker, CST’s Director of Business Development. “These TKSignatures® can provide critical information to enable the development of novel and proprietary assays of efficacy and pharmacodynamics. CST superiority in antibody and immunoassay development is fully integrated with PhosphoScan®, and this can enable CST to translate PhosphoScan® discoveries into validated biomarker assays for Aventis.”

CST’s PhosphoScan® platform is a robust and superior methodology for elucidating TKSignatures® of protein tyrosine kinase targets. PhosphoScan® TKSignatures® have been discovered for multiple disease models and targets, and CST has used it to identify thousands of novel phosphorylation sites.
