R-Phycoerythrin (PE) Conjugated Antibodies

R-Phycoerythrin (PE) is a red fluorescent, multi-subunit protein isolated from marine algae used extensively for conjugation of proteins. The absorbance spectrum for PE covers a broad range of excitation wavelengths, allowing excitation source flexibility while maintaining large Stokes shift. PE is not quenched by endogenous proteins, is water-soluble, lacks nonspecific binding and maintains spectral properties upon conjugation. In addition, PE has a high quantum yield, which is temperature independent and fluoresces over a wide pH range. PE excitation with the argon ion laser (488) and detection at 570 nm allows the multiplexing of PE conjugated proteins with other fluorochrome labeled proteins.
