Specificity / Sensitivity
Cytochrome c (6H2.B4) Mouse mAb recognizes endogenous levels of total cytochrome c protein by immunofluorescence. This antibody is not recommended for western blot.
Source / Purification
Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with recombinant rat cytochrome c protein.
Immunoprecipitation of cytochrome c from RD cell extracts using Mouse (G3A1) mAb IgG1 Isotype Control #5415 (lane 2) or Cytochrome c (6H2.B4) Mouse mAb (lane 3). Lane 1 is 10% input. Western blot was performed using Cytochrome c (D18C7) Rabbit mAb #11940.
Cytochrome c is a well conserved electron-transport protein and is part of the respiratory chain localized to mitochondrial intermembrane space (1). Upon apoptotic stimulation, cytochrome c released from mitochondria associates with procaspase-9 (47 kDa)/Apaf 1. This complex processes caspase-9 from inactive proenzyme to its active form (2). This event further triggers caspase-3 activation and eventually leads to apoptosis (3).
