Species cross-reactivity is determined by western blot. Species enclosed in parentheses are predicted to react based on 100% sequence homology.

Protocols

Specificity / Sensitivity

α-Synuclein Antibody detects the alpha isoform of synuclein. The antibody may cross-react with β-synuclein.

Source / Purification

Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to the carboxy-terminal sequence of human α-synuclein. Antibodies are purified by protein A and peptide affinity chromatography.

Western Blotting

Western Blotting

Western blot analysis of extracts from 293, HeLa, rat brain and mouse brain cell extracts, using α-Synuclein Antibody.

IP

IP

Immunoprecipitation of α-synuclein from HeLa cell extracts, using α-Synuclein Antibody. Lane 1 is lysate control, lane 2 is antibody alone and lane 3 is both antibody and lysate.

Background

α-Synuclein is a protein of 140-amino acids expressed abundantly in the brain. α-Synuclein is also the main component of pathogenic Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites. Research studies have shown that mutations of the α-synuclein gene are linked to Parkinson's disease (1).
