Species cross-reactivity is determined by western blot. Species enclosed in parentheses are predicted to react based on 100% sequence homology.
Protocols
Specificity / Sensitivity
Fragilis Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total fragilis protein.
Source / Purification
Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Gln16 of mouse fragilis protein. Antibodies are purified by protein A and peptide affinity chromatography.
Background
Fragilis (Ifitm3) belongs to the interferon (IFN)-inducible transmembrane protein family (1), which consists of five highly similar transmembrane proteins that are conserved among mammalian species (2). It is thought to be the first gene to mark the onset of germ cell competence during embryonic development in mice (3). Cells expressing high levels of fragilis protein go on to express stella, a protein found exclusively in lineage-restricted germ cells (3). Studies on fragilis family members could help elucidate the mechanisms through which interferons act as signaling molecules during embryonic development (2).
