The purity of recombinant IL-6 was determined by SDS-PAGE of 6 µg reduced (+) and non-reduced (-) recombinant IL-6 and staining overnight with Coomassie Blue.

TF-1 is a pre-myeloid cell line orginally derived from a patient with erythroleukemia. These cells are often used for bioassays of various cytokines including IL-6, which induces proliferation of TF-1 cells. Here, the proliferation of TF-1 cells treated with increasing concentrations of IL-6 was assessed after 48 hour treatment with IL-6, cells were incubated with a tetrazolium salt and the OD₄₅₀–OD₆₅₀ was determined.
