Specificity/Sensitivity

CD235a/Glycophorin A (JC159) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of CD235a/Glycophorin A protein.

Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with membrane preparations from splenic hairy cell leukemia cells.

Background

CD235a/Glycophorin A, also known as GPA, is one of the major sialoglycoproteins expressed on human red blood cells, specifically in mature erythrocytes and erythroid precursor cells (1). The GPA gene is encoded for both M- and N-blood group antigens. CD235a/Glycophorin A is characterized as a class I transmembrane protein because it has a cleavable signal peptide and a single membrane-spanning domain (2). The CD235a/Glycophorin A protein is required for the high activity structure of AE1/SLC4A1 and plays an important role in the function of the anion exchange protein (3). CD235a/Glycophorin A is a receptor for Hepatitis A virus (HAV), influenza virus, and parvovirus (4-6).

Species Reactivity

Species reactivity is determined by testing in at least one approved application (e.g., western blot).
