    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

ALFA-Tag (E1R1A) Mouse mAb detects exogenously expressed proteins containing the ALFA epitope tag. The antibody recognizes the ALFA-tag fused to either the amino or carboxy terminus of targeted proteins in transfected cells. ALFA-Tag (E1R1A) Mouse mAb detects exogenously expressed ALFA-tagged proteins in cells expressed under a CMV promoter. Expression under other promoters has not been evaluated. This antibody may detect several non-specific bands of unknown origin in rat cell lines.

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues of the ALFA epitope tag.

    Background

Epitope tags are useful for the labeling and detection of proteins using immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunostaining techniques. Because of their small size, they are unlikely to affect the tagged protein’s biochemical properties.
The ALFA-tag is a highly versatile epitope tag made from a hydrophilic, 15 amino acid sequence with a high propensity to form a small, stable α-helix structure (1).
