    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human FATP4/SLC27A4 protein.

    Background

Long-chain fatty acid transport protein 4 (FATP4), also known as solute carrier family 27 member 4 (SLC27A4), is a transmembrane protein in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) (1). It is an acyl-CoA synthetase and has higher enzymatic activity toward saturated and monounsaturated very long-chain fatty acids (1,2). Studies show that FATP4/SLC27A4 promotes fatty acid uptake by endothelial cells through its acyl-CoA synthetase activity. This enzymatic activity requires ATP produced in mitochondria that are positioned closely to the ER (3). In addition, during starvation of myoblasts, perilipin-5 on lipid droplets interacts with FATP4/SLC27A4 on mitochondria to promote fatty acid transport from lipid droplets to mitochondria (4).
