    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the amino terminus of human septin-2 protein.

    Background

Septins are a conserved family of cytoskeletal GTP-binding proteins that consist of three major domains: an N-terminal region, a GTP-binding region (G-domain), and a C-terminal region, all of which are essential for septin oligomerization (1,2). Septin-2 (SEPT2) is expressed in all tissue types, but shows high expression in brain tissue (2). It is important for neuronal structure and function, particularly in maintaining the axon initial segment (AIS) for cognitive processes, supporting vesicle trafficking (secretion/endocytosis) via interactions with the exocyst complex, and regulating mitochondrial fission for synaptic health (3,4). SEPT2 has been found in senile plaques, suggesting a role in neurodegeneration, and can form amyloid-like aggregates (5).
