    Background

    Mitochondrial enoyl-CoA hydratase short chain 1 (ECHS1), also known as short-chain enoyl-CoA hydratase (SCEH), is active in many metabolic pathways, including short-chain fatty acid β-oxidation and branched-chain amino acid catabolic pathway (1-3). Studies show that lysine catabolism in glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) is altered via upregulation of lysine transporter SLC7A2 and crotonyl-CoA-producing enzyme GCDH and downregulation of ECHS1. These changes result in histone H4 lysine crotonylation. Lysine restriction decreases histone lysine crotonylation and reduces tumor growth (3).
