    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

Melanotransferrin (F3W8H) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total melanotransferrin protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Gly668 of human melanotransferrin protein.

    Background

Melanotransferrin, also known as MTF, MFI2, CD228, or p97, is a membrane-bound glycoprotein that is commonly associated with melanoma (1). Melanotransferrin shares structural similarity and iron-binding properties with the protein transferrin, although it does not appear to be involved with iron transport (2-4). Melanotransferrin is expressed at low levels in normal tissue but has elevated expression in melanoma (5,6). The exact biological function of melanotransferrin in melanoma is not yet fully understood, but it is believed to play a role in cell proliferation and invasion (7). Upregulation of melanotransferrin has also been observed in other forms of cancer, such as lung, colorectal, gastric, and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) (8-11).
