    Background

    Interferon-induced 35 kDa protein (IFI35) is a leucine zipper-containing protein that is upregulated in response to type I and type II interferons (1,2). Research studies have demonstrated that intracellular pools of IFI35, in complex with NMI, negatively regulate innate immune antiviral signaling by blunting type I interferon production (3,4). Extracellularly, IFI35 has been shown to modulate the innate immune response by functioning as a proinflammatory damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) upon release by activated macrophages (5,6).
