    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

MCP-8 (F6M5L) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total MCP-8 protein. This antibody detects a 90 kDa protein of unknown identity in some cell lines. Nonspecific staining has been observed in mouse neurons by immunofluorescence.

    Species Reactivity:

    Mouse

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of mouse MCP-8 protein.

    Background

Mast cell protease 8 (MCP-8) is a serine protease expressed in mice and rats (1,2). Its enzymatic function has not been well characterized; however, it has been shown to induce an inflammatory response by indirectly recruiting leukocytes in a COX-mediated manner (3). Despite its name, MCP-8 is primarily expressed in mouse basophils and is often used as a phenotyping marker (4,5). Although basophils are the major mature cell population expressing the protein, MCP-8 is also transiently expressed by granulocyte-macrophage progenitors. High-dose diphtheria toxin (DT) injection into MCPT8-DTR thus reduces eosinophils, neutrophils, and basophils (6,7).
