    Human, Rat

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Val30 of human PTGDS protein.

    Background

Prostaglandin D2 synthase (PTGDS), also known as lipocalin-type prostaglandin-D synthase (L-PGDS), catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) (1,2). Studies show that senescent cells have increased levels of oxylipins. The levels of PTGDS mRNA, which is involved in oxylipin biosynthesis, are also elevated in some senescent cells (3). In addition, the gene encoding this enzyme in mice was identified as a genetic marker for temperature-sensitive neurons in the preoptic area of anterior hypothalamus (POA). This enzyme is critical for thermoregulation, and when the temperature rises in mouse POA, it generates more PGD2 in temperature-sensitive neurons, reducing core body temperature (2).
