    Background

TAPBPR (Tapasin-related protein, TAPBPL) is a type I transmembrane protein expressed primarily in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus of T cells, B cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells (1,5). TAPBPR acts as a molecular chaperone for major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC class I) and plays a role in the MHC class I-restricted antigen processing and presentation pathway (2-4). TAPBPL has also been described as a novel T cell co-inhibitory molecule and shares both sequence and structural similarities with existing B7 family members of the Ig superfamily (5).
