    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

ITM2A Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total ITM2A protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human

    Source / Purification

Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Pro9 of human ITM2A protein. Antibodies are purified by peptide affinity chromatography.

    Background

Integral membrane protein 2A (ITM2A) is a type II membrane protein. ITM2A belongs to a family of membrane proteins defined by a conserved BRICHOS domain, a stretch of approximately 100 amino acids that may function as chaperone proteins (1). ITM2A, like other BRICHOS domain-containing proteins, may undergo proteolytic cleavage as it matures (2,3). BRICHOS domain-containing proteins exhibit anti-amyloidogenic activity, suggesting that these proteins may modulate formation of amyloid fibrils and oligomers (4). Aberrant amyloid formation is associated with amyloid diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. The specific function of ITM2A is unclear but it may play a redundant role in the development and function of T cells (5).
