    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a recombinant fragment specific to the central region of human ST2 protein.

    Background

ST2 is a component of the interleukin-33 (IL-33) receptor, which is a heterodimer of ST2 and IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL1RAP) (1). ST2 is expressed on various types of immune cells, including several types of T cells, group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), NK cells, and myeloid cells, as well as on cardiomyocytes, microglia, and astrocytes (2,3). Its ligand, IL-33, is expressed by endothelial and epithelial cells, and functions as an alarmin (4,5). ST2 is activated in response to allergens and parasites, leading to signaling via MyD88, which results in activation of NF-κB and AP-1, inducing production of IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 (4). Aberrant signaling along the IL-33/ST2 axis has been implicated in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with anti-IL-33 and anti-ST2 therapeutics both under investigation for clinical use (6,7).
