    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

PELO (F3V8O) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total PELO protein. This antibody detects a 120 kDa band of unknown origin.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human, Mouse, Rat, Monkey

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding His244 of human PELO protein.

    Background

PELO, also known as Pelota or Dom34, along with its binding partner HBS1, is involved in several key mRNA quality control mechanisms (1). The PELO-HBS1 complex utilizes the ATPase ABCE1 as an ATPase to cause dissociation of stalled elongation complexes (3,4). PELO-HBS1 can cause mRNA degradation through two main pathways: the nonstop mRNA degradation pathway, where the mRNA lacks a stop codon, and the no-go mRNA degradation pathway, where the ribosome stalls due to secondary structures or damaged nucleotides (2-5). PELO has been shown to play a multifaceted role in viral infection, detecting single-stranded viral RNAs and targeting them for degradation, while also facilitating RNA turnover for more efficient viral replication (6,7). PELO has been implicated in protection from age-related disease phenotypes (8).

    Alternate Names
