    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

ABCD3 (F2N8W) Rabbit mAb recognizes endogenous levels of total ABCD3 protein. This antibody detects a 100 kDa and a 25 kDa protein of unknown identity in some cell lines.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human, Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human ABCD3 protein.

    Background

ATP-binding cassette sub-family D member 3 (ABCD3) is a member of the ABC transporter family, a group of evolutionarily conserved membrane proteins that use ATP hydrolysis to transport diverse substrates across biological membranes (1). ABCD3 was first cloned from rat liver peroxisomes as a 70 kDa peroxisomal membrane protein named PMP70 (2). At the peroxisomal membrane, ABCD3 utilizes a nucleotide-binding domain (NBD) and a transmembrane domain (TMD) to create a cavity that enables transport of its substrates, fatty acyl-CoAs, from the cytosol into the peroxisome for β-oxidation (3). Mutations in the ABCD3 gene have been linked to hepatosplenomegaly (4).
