    Human, Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human galectin-7/LGALS7 protein.

    Background

Galectin-7 belongs to the galectin family of carbohydrate-binding proteins, which specifically binds β-galactose-containing glycoconjugates and shares primary structural homology in the carbohydrate-recognition domain (CRD). Galectin-7 is a prototype galectin, containing a single CRD and forming homodimers (1). Galectin-7 is mainly expressed in stratified epithelial cells, where it contributes to tissue differentiation and development, and plays a crucial role in the re-epithelialization process of corneal or epidermal wounds induced by UV irradiation (2,3). The protein functions by stabilizing E-cadherin on the cell surface (4) and intracellularly activating JNK to induce pro-apoptotic caspase activity and cytochrome C release (5). Elevated galectin-7 expression is associated with many carcinomas. It promotes cancer migration and metastasis by activating ERK and JNK signaling, increasing MMP-9 and MMP-2 expression (6,7).
