    Background

    Pre-mRNA processing factor 3 (PRPF3) is a U4/U6 snRNP-associated protein that is a critical regulator of the splicing process (1-3). PRPF3, PRPF4, and PPIH form a stable complex essential for the proper formation and function of the U4/U6.U5 tri-snRNP (3). PRPF3 interacts with SPF30, which forms a bridge between tri-snRNP and U2AF35, a protein that recognizes 3’ splice sites (4). PRPF3 mutations cause autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa (5,6). Furthermore, PRPF3 has been identified as a potential oncogene in hepatocellular carcinoma (7).
